Camp Green Lane Blog Post July 13th
What would you do if you could only spend a day at camp?
What would you do at Camp Green Lane, given only a few hours between the arches?
Today was Rookie Day, and for dozens of little boys and girls, it’s their first CGL experience. It’s their first chance to see what camp is all about.
Just after breakfast, Rookies arrived at the GLOBE and were split into cabins for the day. While their parents learned all about camp, the little ones raced off to a day of activities. They played all the hits here at CGL, heading to High Ropes and the lake, Arts and Crafts, archery, quads and basketball.
There was a chicken fingers and french fry lunch and a stop at the Canteen for a treat before their day was over.
Hopefully, next summer, they’ll return as full-time campers and take their places among the Camp Green Lane family. Today was just a taste of camp life, a day in which you experience a lot of great activities, make new friends and take your first steps on CGL ground.
New camp adventures await for those young girls and boys in the near future. But for those of us who remain, who get to spend more than just a few hours at camp, there’s an overwhelming sense of gratitude. This place is really incredible.
Being at camp is a privilege. Everyone who left today is back in a world of screens and the news cycle and the hustle and bustle of the world outside the arches. But here at camp, life is simple. It is a world free of electronic distractions and anonymity, where we laugh and play all day only to do it again in the morning.
Camp is bliss, and today, dozens of little people got to experience it for a minute.
The lucky ones will find an experience to last a lifetime.
