Directors Welcome Message

We Welcome You To Camp Green Lane … We’re Mighty Glad You’re Here …

So go the words to a song our campers sing to visitors who join us for a meal in our dining hall. And we are, indeed, mighty glad you’ve taken the time to check out what makes Camp Green Lane such a special place. During our tenure at Camp Green Lane we have worn various hats; from campers, to counselors, to supervisors, to camp parents, and since 2011, Owners and Directors of our cherished summer home!

With roots so deep in the Camp Green Lane experience, and having experienced it from so many different angles, we have honed our craft and set our priorities accordingly. First and foremost is the happiness, health, and safety of everyone in our care. Beyond that we strive to create a community filled with love, compassion, and acceptance, where lifelong friendships are forged and sportsmanship is ingrained. Our programs help foster independence, and we send our campers home at the end of each summer with new skills, accomplishments, and experiences that they would never gain in an academic setting during the school year.

Camp Green Lane is the only place we’d want to spend our summers! We’re honored and excited to have you join us …

adam-weinerAdam Weiner grew up in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania and is a graduate of Northwood University. He walked through the CGL arches for the first time as a 10-year-old camper and returned year after year as a counselor and a supervisor. During that time he met and married his camp sweetheart, Rene, who is also a longtime Camp Green Lane camper and counselor. They dreamt of one day owning the camp that defined their childhoods and brought them together. After years of working in the “real world,” this dream was finally realized in 2011. Adam and Rene live in Center City Philadelphia with their two sons, Ethan and Jack. Rene spends the winter months teaching preschool.

jay-freedmanJay Freedman grew up in Erdenheim, Pennsylvania and is a graduate of The Ohio State University. Camp Green Lane is in Jay’s blood, as both of his parents were upper staff members and his family tree has grown far and wide between the arches. He actually took his first steps at camp! He was a long-time camper and counselor and eventually became the Assistant Director in 2000. Jay grew up with a love of camp and met his wife Melissa when they were just teenagers at Camp Green Lane. Much like the Weiners, the Freedmans’ connection to CGL was deeply rooted, and after pursuing outside ventures, their dream was fulfilled and they were thrilled to return to Green Lane. Jay and Melissa live in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania with their two children, Emma and Matthew. Melissa spends the offseason teaching 4th grade in the School District of Philadelphia.

Together, the Weiners and the Freedmans bring with them a lifetime of camp experience. Their shared belief that overnight camp is a unique and amazing opportunity that allows children and staff the chance to learn from one another and build extraordinary relationships brought them back year after year. As directors, they bring with them a long Camp Green Lane history, love, enthusiasm and passion for camp and its traditions. They are eager to help your children create their own lasting camp memories. As parents themselves, they feel the enormous responsibility that is bestowed upon them to provide a safe, healthy, nurturing environment full of positive experiences. You will find them to be hands-on directors who are available to you each and every day.
