Camp Green Lane Blog Post July 13th

A big surprise was finally revealed in the Dining Hall when Olympics broke today.

Throughout a Camp Green Lane summer, there are annual surprises the kids and even the adults all look forward to. But we never know when things like Color War, Midnight Madness, the Polar Plunge or Olympics are going to happen, so anticipation builds and builds about teams and themes and names and of course, who the captains are going to be.

And then it finally breaks, like it did today.

Right before we dug into our bagels and lox for lunch, this year’s captains and the themes of the four Olympic teams were announced. The news brought the littlest campers out of their chairs and the side dining hall crowded the entrance to get a look at the stage for the anticipated announcement. Kids screamed even harder for their own counselors if they were selected.

Olympics is a signature CGL all-camp event that will take place later this week. A dress rehearsal for Color War, our Olympics split the camp into four teams instead of two. On Thursday, the day will start with a torch-lighting ceremony on BB1 that will include former Camper Captains and every camper and counselor in camp will be placed on a team. The Captains will participate in a Fear Factor event to start the competition and later in the day, they’ll give the Obstacle Course a try.

Everyone will learn cheers and songs this week, and on the big day, we’ll criss-cross camp in zany, divisional activities (think: relay races, Bucket Brigades, Slip-and-Slide Kickball, Whirlyball and Tennis Baseball).

Olympics traditionally ends with a Sing at the Olympics Dance, where the four teams perform their thematic songs and a winner is crowned at the end.

Without further ado, the teams and captains for CGL Olympics 2025:

* Team Dreamworks—Andrew Blizzard and Brianna Pludo

* Team Disney—Ethan “Junior” Cohen and Iona Priestley

* Team Nickelodeon—Dylan Stein and Lola Kevitch

* Team Pixar—Carson Schneck and Ellie Fass

Check back later in the week for Olympics updates!
