Camp Green Lane 100th Summer Blog Post June 26th
The 10 part is over. Now comes the 2.
After waiting 10 long months to be in our summer Happy Place, Camp Green Lane came alive today when the first bus rolled through the Arches for the start of Summer 2026.
One wide-eyed child after another spilled into the Circle, found their way into group hugs and the kind of greetings only camp friends share. You’ve seen it before: Girls jump and scream together, boys drop their bags and bro hug in an Opening Day display of the sweetest affection there is. Camp friends are the best friends.
We are so back.
The first day of camp is always a whirlwind of emotion and activities. Traditionally, the buses arrive, campers gather under bunk signs and meet open-armed counselors and forever friends all at once. I say every summer how each of us steps off the bus alone, but within seconds, everyone becomes part of a group. And just like that, you’re never alone again at camp.
Then it’s off to lunch. The Dining Hall was alive with cheers and grilled cheese and more cheers for our first meal together.
We had a short rest and free swims, and tonight was our traditional first dinner of chicken fingers and fries. Tonight is the Counselor Talent Show, which will be the first of many chances we have to laugh together this summer.
It’s good to be back. Everyone is so happy to be here. Sneakers are already squeaking on BB1. The Spike Ball games were going, and the lacrosse sticks were out, the fishing poles were in the lake and they’re running and laughing and Camp Green Lane is alive for a centennial summer celebration.
Welcome back, Camp Green Lane.
The 10 part’s done.
Now it’s time for the greatest 2 months ever.
