Camp Green Lane 100th Summer Blog Post, July 1st

, July 1, 2026

If you’ve checked the weather app today, you already know: it’s hot.

Fortunately, so do we.

After 100 summers, we’ve learned a thing or two about camping in the Pennsylvania sunshine, and keeping campers safe, comfortable, and having fun in the heat is something we take very seriously.

When temperatures climb, we switch over to our Steamy Day schedule, a special version of the day designed to help everyone stay cool while still making the most of camp.

That means plenty of time at the pool and lake, games and activities in the shade,  fun inside at Arts & Crafts, water fights, and other opportunities to cool off throughout the day. Our supervisors are constantly adjusting activities as needed, keeping an eye on the weather and making smart decisions based on the conditions.  And of course, the air conditioned dining room doesn’t hurt!

Hydration is a team sport at CGL. Campers are frequently reminded to fill up their water bottles, take water breaks, and drink throughout the day. Sunscreen is applied regularly, shady spots become prime real estate, and you’ll often hear counselors asking, “When’s the last time you had some water?” Sometimes before the campers even realize they’re thirsty.

The best part? Kids are remarkably adaptable. They jump from the pool to the lake, from the lake to an indoor activity, and before long they’re too busy laughing with friends to notice the thermometer.

Summer is supposed to be warm. That’s part of the magic. And while we can’t control the weather, we can control how we respond to it.

Rest assured that your campers are staying active, staying hydrated, staying protected, and most importantly, staying happy.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a date with the pool.
