Camp Green Lane 100th Summer Blog Post, July 5th
If you were anywhere around camp at approximately 4:00 this afternoon, you probably heard a familiar call echo through the trees.
Within seconds, campers and counselors wrapped up Juice Squad, dropped what they were doing, and made their way to the tennis courts.
CGL Survivor 2026 has officially begun!
For our new campers and families, Survivor is one of Camp Green Lane’s favorite summer-long traditions. Throughout the summer, each division competes in a series of exciting challenges, earning points and bragging rights along the way. The competition all leads up to our legendary Divisional Sing, where one division will ultimately be crowned Division of the Year. We play the Survivor theme music over the PA system to signify a Survivor event is about to happen.
The excitement kicked off as each division gathered on the tennis courts to receive its official Survivor gear – division bandanas and ceremonial torches.
Division Colors:
- Inter Girls – Pink
- Inter Boys – Yellow
- Debs – Orange
- Cadets – Red
- Senior Girls – Purple
- Senior Boys – Blue
- Greeks – Black
With everyone proudly sporting their new colors, it was time for the very first challenge of the summer.
The game? Simon Says.
Sounds simple…until you’re competing against the entire camp.
With Upper Staff carefully watching every move, Max fired off command after command:
“Simon says stand on one foot.”
“Simon says jump up and down.”
“Clap your hands!”
One by one, campers were eliminated for reacting just a little too quickly, while the remaining competitors battled on. The crowd grew louder with every round as divisions cheered on their last remaining representatives.
After an incredible 40 minutes of competition, only one camper was still standing.
Congratulations to Emily Lebenstein, whose focus, patience, and quick thinking earned the victory for the Debs, giving them the first Survivor win of the summer!
It’s only the beginning, and there are plenty more challenges, surprises, and unforgettable Survivor moments still to come.
Keep your ears open for the next Survivor call…you never know when it will happen!
