Camp Green Lane 100th Summer Blog Post, July 8th
Today was Funday.
It was also the last day of the regular schedule rotation, or the eighth of our CGL days. Today we started the morning with Super Clean Up; the Boys had Elective, Leagues, Tournaments and cabin games while the Girls had Leagues and activities before cheeseburger lunch.
The afternoon saw the Girls go to their Electives, with more Leagues and cabin activities for the Boys with alternating Free Swims on either side of Snack Squad.
While there were plenty of regularly scheduled camp activities, we also had lots of special interest clinics taking place in—and out—of camp, too. Golf lessons resumed today after yesterday’s Intercamp Games, and we also held Cheer Camp-within-a-Camp and the Yoga studio was in session again today.
Tonight is also our first Overnight of the summer. A bit of a CGL rite of passage, campers and counselors pitch tents up on Field 5 for the night. We take turns throughout the summer by division. We hike up sleeping bags and cook dinner over a campfire. The older boys hold a miniature version of Rope Burn, a Color War signature, and we finish the night with s’mores and a star-filled sky, and if we’re lucky, maybe even some singing.
Tonight’s another night I’ll feel extra lucky to be here at camp.
Because where else in the world can you do what we do here? Where else do they spend sun-soaked days playing in tournaments and making arts & crafts and painting our faces and acting silly and trying new things? The kids who stay home for the summer can only dream about what we do here on a random Wednesday.
Or Funday.
Wait until you hear about what we’re doing tomorrow.
