Camp Green Lane 100th Summer Blog Post, August 3rd
Hey Camp Green Lane World,
Coming out of retirement to write a guest blog today. My name is Jessie Levin and the last time you heard from me was back in 2017. I may be a little older and wiser but I am happy to report that camp is the same in every way that matters. Walking back into the arches still feels like home. There is no better feeling than pulling up to camp to see the white team headed to line-up. Same traditions, same feel, same energy in the air. I was a color war captain back in 2012 and there is nothing I love more than sitting around with the current captains who were in their first summers of camp back then. We’ve enjoyed talking about old times, giving them advice and just hearing that they get to have the same experiences that we all had. Camp is truly a special place. Getting to grow up and become what you have always wanted to be between the arches. It’s funny me and my camp friends like to talk about how we miss having “camp problems” . I miss my biggest problem being if there would be ice cream sandwiches for lunch, or if rain would push back rope burn. As I watched Green and White battle it out at tug of war today it was easy to fall back into the camp way of life. Laughing with kids and adults who we just met but all get it. We all understand that feeling of counting color war points, of wanting nothing more than to get that win. We are lucky to get to be together in this special place and make memories that span generations. I cannot wait to be back with my kids in the future and share the way of life with them. Camp people just do it and we are lucky to be a part of this legacy. Gotta go catch the winner of All Gods children… run to the line, run to the line, run to the line!
Yours in camping ,
Jessie Levin
