Camp Green Lane 100th Summer Blog Post, July 10th

I’ve been to hundreds of games in my life.

If I counted, I might even get close to 1,000. Of all those stadium experiences, none are as much fun as our annual trip to Coca-Cola Park to see the IronPigs. It has everything to do with the company.

Last night, we loaded up yellow buses and sang the whole way to the ballpark for a picture-perfect evening, complete with a gorgeous sunset over the third base line. The trip is always a real taste of Americana with the smell of the grass and the crack of the bat, but, like everything, doing it with camp friends makes it even sweeter.

I spent Free Swim today asking around about everyone’s IronPigs experience, and they all seem to align with mine: “It was so fun!” everyone from Inter Boys all the way up to the Senior were saying.

What was so much about it?

“It was like the Savannah Bananas!”—

“The food!”

“We were so close to the field!”

“They won!”

“The food!”

What did you eat?

“Corn, obviously!”

You know why they call it Aw-Shucks Corn?

“Why?”

Because when CGL comes to the games, everyone says, ‘Aw-Shucks, that’s a long line!

“French fries.”

“Corn.”

“A hot dog!”

“Corn.”

“Dippin Dots!”

Minor league ball is more intimate, which adds to the night. We basically take over two whole sections in the right field corner. We’re close enough to shout to players for balls between innings, and we sit in prime foul ball territory; a few lucky campers returned home to CGL with some special souvenirs they caught.

Foul balls. Endless eats. Room to stretch out with your best friends in your lap and in your fries. An IronPigs win. Did we mention the corn?

Today felt like an unofficial holiday with everyone wearing their new IronPigs shirts, another CGL tradition the morning after the game.

We also wore smiles, coming off one of the single most fun nights of summer.

I’ve been to hundreds of games in my life.

Here at camp, we all seem to agree that no games are as much fun as when we go to see the IronPigs together.
