Camp Green Lane 100th Summer Blog Post, July 12th
Every Friday when we hold services, there’s a part when we turn to the person next to us and say what we’re looking forward to most this week.
My answer this morning is, Olympics!
One of the signature events of the summer, Olympics is an exciting single day of competition and wacky games. All of camp—campers and counselors—are split into 4 teams. Each team has a pair of captains and a song to learn for the Sing.
This year’s teams and captains are:
’60s—Livy Betesh & Matthew Freedman
’70s—Iona Wright & Matthew Gurtov
’80s—Marin Pecarsky & Seth Walcoff
’90s—Sophia Gurtov & Jacob Gladstone
This morning at breakfast, the captains broke Olympics. A nod to some recent decades over CGL’s 100-year history, this year’s Olympics theme offers plenty of material for songs and costumes you’ll see later this week.
Olympics will take place this Thursday. The day will start with Opening Ceremonies on BB1 and the annual torch lighting. Then the captains test their mettle in a round of Fear Factor to start off the games, and then we’re literally off to the races.
The rest of the day will consist of divisional activities like relays and CGL Olympics classics like slip-and-slide kickball.
What are you looking forward to this week?
Here at camp the answer is simple: Olympics!
