Camp Green Lane 100th Summer Blog Post, July 22nd
For most teenagers, the summer means no school, sleeping in, lazy days, and less commitments. For the Greek division at Camp Green Lane, the summer means impact, volunteering, adventures, waiting tables and being a counselor in training and most of all enjoying the summer with your best friends!!!
Today’s Blog was written by a few of the Gamma Girls (10th Grade Girls), as part of our Greek Division who last week went on the annual Greek Trip, this year to Western Pennsylvania.
Day 1:
The Greeks had a great time on their Seven Springs trip. After a quick 5 hour drive to the outskirts of Pittsburg, they got off the buses to explore the Laurel Caverns, a 4 mile long cave found by the Laural family and later donated to the state of Pennsylvania. Everyone participated in the tiny crawl spaces and fun challenges, such as turning their lights off while finding their way through the tunnels. The cave had its own waterfall with fresh water the campers had the opportunity to drink from. The tour guides educated the Greeks on the history of the creation of the caverns and took them 48 stories into the ground. The temperature reached 52 degrees which was refreshing from the outside heat. Back at the hotel, they had free time to eat, nap, and explore the grounds before axe throwing and making s’mores. The rooms contained 3-4 campers and counselors, and air conditioning!
Day 2:
The adventure for day two was white water rafting in Ohiopyle. Cabins got into groups of 5-6 people and navigated the rivers for nearly 3 hours. The kids got to experience level 3 and 4 rapids, many even tumbling into the river (they were safe). Lunch was at a restaurant nearby where burgers, wraps, salads, fries, and chicken fingers were provided. Later that day, many Greeks could be found by the pool, hot tubs, or wandering the hotel. They spent dinner with their friends once again and finished off the night with ice cream and mini golf. Afterwards, they had a few hours left for free time before returning to their rooms.
Day 3:
10 am breakfast! Everyone went back to their rooms to clean and pack up their stuff, and once finished, received a wristband to explore the amenities of the resort. People were found in the arcade, on a scenic ski lift to the top of the slopes, on a trampoline, and so much more. Campers got time to shop in the many stores that were provided in the hotel, such as gift shops, pizza, and cafes. Buses left around 3pm, and the Greeks returned to camp with pizza awaiting them in the dining hall.
