Camp Green Lane 100th Summer Blog Post, July 30th

, July 30, 2026

It’s been a busy day here between the Arches.

This morning, we heard a boom.

As she does every morning, Aunt Marnie woke camp with a cheerful greeting and a song over the loudspeaker. But the moment the music ended…

BOOM!

A loud blast echoed across camp.

And then came the stampede.

Campers and staff poured out from every corner of camp, many still in pajamas, some sporting impressive pillow marks on their faces, all sprinting toward the lake, waiting for the second and third booms that would signal Color War had officially broken.

Instead, they found Vikings and Pirates battling it out on the water, paddling canoes into “battle” while fierce skirmishes took place on the dock and the lake trampoline. The crowd then raced to BB1, where the white poster boards that would normally reveal the Color War teams were dramatically flipped over…

…to reveal that it was all part of the annual Sigma/Delta fake break.

Well played.

Could the real break happen tomorrow? Tonight? Five minutes after I finish writing this blog?

Nobody knows.

And that’s exactly what makes this week so much fun. Color War paranoia has officially reached peak levels, and every unexpected noise sends campers’ heads spinning. It could happen at any moment.

After breakfast, it was time for one of our favorite annual traditions: the Camp Green Lane Bi- and Triathlon.

Our Inter campers tackled the Biathlon by swimming two lengths of the pool before running six laps around lower camp. Our Debs, Cadets, and Seniors took on the Triathlon, swimming four lengths, riding five laps around the bike course, and finishing with eight laps around camp.

While crossing the finish line is certainly an accomplishment, what makes this event so special is everything happening around it.

Friends, siblings, counselors, and bunkmates became coaches for the morning, running alongside participants, shouting encouragement, and celebrating every lap. Cabins created colorful signs to cheer on their bunkmates, and the entire camp lined the course with applause and support. It was another reminder that at Camp Green Lane, individual accomplishments quickly become community celebrations.

Tonight at dinner we’ll recognize our winners, but everyone who took part has already earned plenty to be proud of.

As if that weren’t enough for one day, this afternoon camp transformed into Halloween at Camp Green Lane.

After lunch, bunks headed to the dining hall to carve watermelons into amazingly creative masterpieces before decorating their cabins and taking over Arts & Crafts to put the finishing touches on their group costumes. We can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with and crown the champions of Halloween 2026 later tonight.

So yes…it’s been a busy day here between the Arches.

And somehow, through all of the races, costumes, watermelon carving, and fake breaks, everyone is still listening.

Waiting.

Watching the skies.

Because somewhere out there are three booms that will announce the beginning of the greatest week of the summer.

Will today finally be the day?

Stay tuned.
