Camp Green Lane 100th Summer Blog Post June 27th
Happy Someday to all who celebrate!
While those of you outside the famed CGL Arches may believe today was Saturday, we’re sorry to inform you that you are mistaken. At least by our standards.
Today was Someday – our first full day of scheduled activities – and camp officially kicked into high gear.
Like many things at CGL, our activity schedule is uniquely ours. Instead of Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, etc., our week looks like this:
Someday
Anyday
Oneday
Funday
Heyday
Playday
Sayday
Yeayday
Confused? Delighted? Slightly concerned? Good. You’re getting the full camp experience.
There are actually a couple of reasons behind our wonderfully strange calendar.
First, flexibility. Let’s say the bunk of Hershey has tennis every Thursday. If Thursday gets rained out and we switch to our Rainy Day schedule, poor Hershey misses tennis for an entire week. Tragic. Devastating. Potentially grounds for mutiny.
By using our own schedule, we can simply pause, adjust, and pick right back up with the next scheduled day once the weather cooperates. Nobody misses out, and the tennis courts remain mutiny-free.
But there’s an even more important reason.
Many campers associate certain days of the week with special routines at home. Sunday dinners with grandparents, Friday movie nights, Saturday morning pancakes, and so on. Knowing exactly what day it is can sometimes make campers focus on what they’re missing rather than all the amazing things happening right here.
So, once campers pass through the Arches, they enter the CGL bubble: a magical little world where we make our own rules, create our own traditions, and lose track of what day it is together.
And honestly? That’s kind of the point.
Enjoy your Someday evening, and we’ll see you back here tomorrow.
