Camp Green Lane 100th Summer Blog Post, June 29th
After a full day of activities, three delicious meals, clean-up, rest hour, free play, and everything else that makes up a Camp Green Lane day…
After the sun goes down and the lights begin twinkling all around camp…
After you’ve sprinted back to the cabin to grab a sweatshirt just in case it gets chilly…
After all of that, it’s finally time for evening activity.
Most nights, we have seven different evening activities happening simultaneously around camp – one for each division. Once in a while, divisions team up for co-ed movies, campfires, or Pal Night activities (more on those in a future blog). And sometimes the entire camp comes together for dances, services, or movies under the stars.
Tonight’s lineup looked like this:
Inter Girls – Cake Boss
Each bunk receives a plain sheet cake, icing, sprinkles, crushed Oreos, candy, and plenty of creativity. Their mission? Create the most impressive cake masterpiece possible. (And yes, our gluten-free campers had all the same decorating fun!)
Inter Boys – Beat the Pro
Counselors set up stations featuring skills they’re particularly proud of – whether that’s bouncing a ping pong ball on a paddle, sinking baskets, or another hidden talent. Campers travel from station to station attempting to dethrone the “pros.” Bragging rights are on the line.
Debs – Sing Down
A classic CGL favorite. Bunks are given a word or category and must come up with as many songs as possible that fit. The singing continues round after round until teams are eliminated for repeating a song or drawing a blank, leaving one bunk standing victorious.
Cadets – Blacklight Dodgeball
Exactly what it sounds like. Campers head to the Dome dressed in light colors, the overhead lights go out, the blacklights come on, and glow-in-the-dark dodgeballs start flying. What could possibly go wrong?
Senior Girls – Wacky Wordies
This one is a personal favorite that I brought back from my own camper days. Cabins compete in a series of word games and puzzles, racing to see who can solve them first.
Senior Boys/Greek Boys – Super Leagues Draft
This evening could have its own blog post. Uncle Evan transforms draft night into a full-scale production complete with costumes, a red carpet, contract signings, and enough excitement to rival any professional sports draft.
Greek Girls – Campfire & S’mores
Need we say more?
As you can see, just because the sun has disappeared behind Master Camp doesn’t mean the excitement between the Arches comes to an end. Around here, the fun doesn’t stop when the lights come on – it simply shifts into evening mode.
