Camp Green Lane Blog July 4th

, July 4, 2025

The expression Picture Perfect Day has an image of today next to it in the dictionary. On this red, white and blue Green Lane day, we played under the clearest skies you’ve ever seen. The high temperature at the end of sixth period was 80, and one week into this camping season, the most comfortable evening temperatures have arrived in time for our first Friday Night Services of summer.

We were up late at the Iron Pigs last night, so Uncle Max announced a 10 a.m. breakfast on the buses home. We woke up late and everyone was wearing their new Iron Pigs swag at pancake breakfast. We all wore some red, white and blue for a day-long July 4 party across camp that featured a hot dog cookout lunch, a dance party on BB1, and the fifth annual July 4 hockey tournament.

Because nothing’s more American than a good, old hockey game.

For a few years now, we’ve been staging a hockey tournament on this date. The boys ring the Outdoor Hockey Rink all day and the winners get to hoist a Stanley Cup, drink Gatorade from it, and at Free Play, they’ll get a championship golf cart parade around camp.

Why do we do it every year? Why do we write the winners’ names on the Cup each summer?

Because we can.

And it’s fun.

Tonight will conclude one week into this summer season. One week blew by in a flash, so it’ll be a good reminder for the kids to make every second count. Seven weeks will fly, and the saying is so true that time flies when you’re having fun.

So tonight we’ll take a moment to reflect on Week 1 between the Arches. We’ll award CHIP medals for Compassion, Counselors of the Week, and bunk awards for Spirit and Inspection.

And we’ll toast to a wonderful first week at Bunk Parties tonight.

Incredibly, we’ve been here a week. Every day has been a new, wonderful adventure. Next week, there will be a Carnival and our first dance, and who knows what else.

So tonight, at the end of a picture-perfect day, we’ll try to hit pause and slow this incredible summer down for just a moment.

Happy Friday, everyone.
