Camp Green Lane Blog July 4th
Happy July 4th!!!
Last night was a beautiful night for baseball, as you can see from the picture in this blog post! The entire camp went to the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs game and let me tell you, we saw an awesome game. Everyone had a great time watching the game, screaming the ever-popular OINK cheer and of course enjoying the great food. As always, the line for the “Aw Shucks Corn” was incredibly long, filled with all Camp Green Lane Campers and Staff. I think the record of most corns stalks eaten this summer was an astounding 9!! We were fortunate that the Iron Pigs selected 4 of our campers to go on the field between the 2nd and 3rd inning and participate in a horse race with inflatable mini horses. Everyone was having a great time and just like last summer, the game was once again all tied up at the end of 9 innings. For all of you new Camp Green Lane families, you should know that after the game we stay for the awesome fireworks show that the Iron pigs put on. Last summer, we unfortunately had to leave as the game lasted until the 16th inning and much too late into the evening. We missed the fireworks. All we ask for is a 9 inning baseball game so that the fireworks can start at a reasonable hour, is that so much? But in the bottom of the 9th inning, the Pigs tied it up. Oh boy, is this going to be a 16 inning game like last summer? In the 10th, the Charlotte Knights scored a go ahead run, and then in the bottom of the 10th, the Pigs first batter hit a home run to once again tie it up…you have to be kidding me! And then once again, the next few innings, no runs scored. The decision was made that we would leave after the Iron Pigs last at bat as close to 11:00 pm. Well, as luck would have it, the Iron Pigs scored at 10:59 and the entire stadium and all the Camp Green Lane campers went bonkers!!!!! Fireworks at last!!!!! We saw an incredible firework display before heading back to camp. Everyone was so excited to have this experience. Fingers crossed for another great game next summer!
Today, due to the late night, we had our first 10:00 breakfast of the summer. Campers came to the dining hall this morning ready for the 4th of July holiday. Everyone is showing their red, white and blue spirit! Tonight we will have our carnival skits. We hope you all have a wonderful holiday and happy Independence Day!
Yours in Camping
