Camp Green Lane Blog Post August 2nd

Today was a long Color War day of cabin activities.

From early this morning, we’ve been competing on every field and court here at Camp Green Lane. On the boys side, the Orioles and A’s played soccer, Cards and Blue Jays had softball, Pirates and White Sox played basketball, Royals and Dodgers played softball, Mets and Padres played basketball, Braves and Phillies played football, Alpha and Delta had soccer.

On the girls side, Holiday and Regency played kickball, Hershey and Hyatt waged an epic duel of running bases, Ritz and Dunes played gaga, Palace and Tropicana had BBK, Seasons and Sands played volleyball, and Claridge, Dorado, Biltmore, Atlantis, Stardust, Gamma and Sigma all played Water Polo within their age groups.

I saw the contents of Color War spirit packages across camp. Little boys in thick chains, girls with antennas, and everyone looks like they were dipped in a tank of green and white face paint.

CGL Color War typically combines two cabins at a time to play cabin activities. That’s why you’re mostly seeing two cabins per event. The teams are split evenly before the Break, and from what I’ve seen, the teams are very evenly matched!

Last night’s staff volleyball games on BB1 were intense and closely played. Each game I’ve refereed or stopped to watch has gone the distance: we’ve seen overtimes, buzzer beaters, fingertip catches and heroic performances from unexpected places.

This afternoon was more of the same: tire pulls, hockey games in both he rink and the Dome, volleyball on the Boys’ Hard Top, and Sea Hunt at the Pool Tonight after dinner will be a third round of cabin activities before we end the night with male and female staff basketball on BB1.

The fields and courts have been busy all day and all night. Soon, we’ll see some of the artwork that will come out of Arts and Crafts, and you’ll hear more about Color War traditions and the creative endeavors of this week.

But today was all about competition on the field and on the court.

And showing off some pretty cool Color War spirit wear while doing it.

The score as of this post is Green Gods with 990 points to White Heroes with 1,080 points. A 90 point color war means it’s anybody’s war to win!
