Camp Green Lane Blog Post August 3rd
Today was the second to last regular camp day we’ll have this summer.
Today was Playday, and for a lot of cabins, it was their last time getting to do certain activities as a cabin. The Phillies, for example, probably didn’t realize it was the last time they would ever have cooking as Senior Boys. Other cabins did high ropes and instructional swim for the last time this summer.
We’re doing a lot for the last time this summer.
The long goodbye has already started, and the realization we’ll pack up the cabins in just a few days has started to creep its way through camp. Today was the last regularly scheduled day of the summer, but we still have so much more to do. And so little time.
We’ll empty the tank over the next few days with a schedule packed with special events and signature Green Lane activities. There’s ice skating, and paintball for the oldest boys; there’s still Leagues winners and Tournaments champions to crown. There’s Awards Night and Cabaret and Banquet and Firefly yet to go. The little boys will have their Polar Plunge and the Senior Boys are anxiously awaiting something called Midnight Madness.
These are the days we remember most each summer. These are the moments we’ll look back on during the winter months. There’s been six weeks of building an incredible playlist of memories, but over the next few days, they’ll become indelible.
These are the days to stay up late. To wake up early and soak in a CGL sunrise. These are the days to write your name in Arts and Crafts. To hold your friends tight. To have one last bunko or two, if we’re lucky.
We’ll wring every last moment out of the coming days.
So today may have been the last Playday. But it was just the beginning.
