Camp Green Lane Blog Post August 5th
This morning, around 12:30 a.m., the Senior Boys were woken up for a moment many of them have been waiting all summer for. The boys knew exactly what to do: they put on their basketball shoes and raced to the Stein Dome for Midnight Madness.
A rite of passage at Camp Green Lane, Midnight Madness is a tradition that goes back more than 30 years. It’s a 3-on-3 basketball tournament/pizza party held in the middle of the night. It comes as a surprise, and when it is time for Midnight Madness, there is a connective tissue between CGL generations. It’s a shared bonding experience among the oldest boys in camp, and one they share with other boys in camp who have played in the tournament, either in the last few years, or even the last few decades.
Everyone can tell you how their Midnight Madness broke or how many slices of pizza they ate that night (or took back to the bunk for breakfast the next morning).
This year’s Midnight Madness was a thrilling tournament from start to finish. After more than two hours, the 12-team single-elimination bracket tournament was complete. Luke Rosenthal’s team of Drew Steiner, Parker Gershman and Ari Berman won this year’s Midnight Madness, while we all enjoyed pizza with everything from pepperoni to pineapple on it!
Today we played out more Leagues playoffs, completed tournaments and got ready for tonight’s Survivor Sing. We also rehearsed Birthday Meal songs for this week.
But first is Survivor Sing: each division will perform an original song in the GLOBE as the final event of the summer. The winner of the sing will be named winner of Survivor and Division of the Year at Banquet Thursday night.
Tomorrow night is Awards Night, when campers receive their trophies and plaques, and incredibly, we’ll pack up the cabins Wednesday before Cabaret.
Days have become just hours left in an incredible summer.
