Camp is all packed.

Tomorrow morning, the bags will be shipped out. Tomorrow afternoon is the annual CGL Idol talent show and then we’ll all get ready for Banquet, Firefly and the 2024 camp video screening.

But first, we dance.

Tonight is Cabaret, one of the most anticipated nights of the summer. It starts with a buffet dinner—Wings! Mozzarella sticks! Mini strombolis! Cookies! Soda!—and ends with the last dance of summer on BB1. Cabaret is a night to party with your camp friends and get dressed up in something special.

Lots of us have had things tucked away just to wear tonight. Some of you delivered special outfits on Visiting Day. Others packed dresses or button-downs in plastic with instructions “For Cabaret!” in their trunks way back in June. Others may be borrowing something new from a friend.

The girls are busy doing their hair and the boys are putting gel in theirs. The smell of hair spray and Axe is thick around the cabins as they get together one last time for a dance.

Up the hill, the Greeks are setting up the Dining Hall and decking it out for the event. All summer, they’ve been working on centerpieces and dinner decor in preparation for tonight.

Everyone is excited for the buffet tonight and the little boys are always VERY excited for the bottles of soda on each table.

It’s always a long day leading up to Cabaret. Cabins were cleaned right after breakfast and then the packing began. Finishing touches were made all day on bunk plaques in Arts and Crafts and camp friends made the most of the day, playing their last games of taps or tennis or just getting a last walk around camp to their favorite spots.

Packing day is a day of reflection, looking back on the montage of memories from the last few weeks at camp. We’re all happy to come home soon. But we’re also sad to leave this place.

There will be more time to look back fondly on the Summer of 2024.

But tonight is for dancing and singing. And soda.
