Camp Green Lane Blog Post August 1st
Finally, Color War is here.
Let’s go back to this morning. Early. I woke up before 7. Went into the bathroom and then things started getting weird. After I flushed the toilet, the water was Emerald-City green. I turned on the shower and the shower turned green, too. Same for the water coming out of the sink.
(Yes, I brushed my teeth with the green water.)
It was obvious what was happening. So I took a seat on my porch, from which I can see across camp. Then it started happening. I saw the Cadet Boys first, the boys in the Dodgers, the White Sox and the Royals came out of their bunks first.
“Our water is green!”
“So is ours!”
Within minutes, a pack of boys in longs and longs (it was cold last night) formed on the row and they went cabin to cabin to find the same thing. All the water in camp was running green. (By lunch it was back to normal.)
Then the BOOMs. By this time, all of camp was waiting on BB1. Signs were unfurled. There were hugs and tears and cheers. The songwriters came out. Then the captains. Camper captains. All before breakfast.
Of course, breakfast was our first Silent Meal (there’s no talking in the Dining Hall this week!), then we were off to cabin activities in the morning. After corn dog lunch, we had Symbol Search, more cabin activities, and then alternating swim-rallies, where the songwriters teach their teams all the songs for next Wednesday’s Sing.
Some schedule highlights for this week: tonight is the Scavenger Hunt and Male and Female Staff Volleyball; tomorrow night is Male and Female Staff Basketball; Sunday night is Rope Burn; Monday is the Amazing Race; Tuesday are Campfire Skits and Wednesday will close with Steeplechase in the afternoon and Sing at night.
Be sure to check back all week for scores and updates.
