Camp Green Lane Blog Post-February 22nd, 2018
I’m not sure if you’ve heard the news, but THE PHILADELPHIA EAGLES WON THE SUPERBOWL! I don’t mean to brag, but please allow me a moment to bask in the glory that my city has been deprived of for oh so very long. Philadelphia is a football city, full of people who bleed green and white. Sound familiar? Let’s take a look at some ways in which Eagles fans and CGL fans are similar:
1. We both root for the underdog. Going into the playoffs, after having lost their star QB, the Eagles were considered the underdog. But fans knew there was no stopping this team, so they donned their green and white, got behind backup QB Nick Foles and cheered for them. At CGL when our team suffers a loss that it looks like we may not be able to recover from, we dust ourselves off, cheer for our team and do our very best. And even if we don’t end up with a check in the ‘W’ column like the Eagles did, we know that we offered support to our friends and bunkmates when they needed it the most.
2. We come together as a family. I’ve never seen a city filled with so much spirit and love for one another as Philadelphia leading up to and then after the Super Bowl. At Camp Green Lane, we call ourselves a summer family, and it’s so fitting. We come together for seven weeks each year with one goal – to pack as much fun, love, and spirit into that time as possible.
3. We speculate about next season. With Carson Wentz on his way to a full recovery, people are already speculating about who the Eagles’ starting QB will be next year. Will they stick with Super Bowl MVP Foles? Will Wentz step back into his position as starter? This remains to be seen. As soon as each camp season ends, we mark our calendars and the countdown to next summer begins. What bunk will I be in? What will the color war themes be? Who will the captains be? How will it break? We spend 10 months mulling everything over while Uncle Jay and Uncle Adam are behind the scenes plotting and planning.
In the end, if you bleed green and white, you bleed green and white. No matter if it’s for your favorite football team or your summer home, you have something that lives inside your heart and helps to keep you warm during the off-season. What we know for sure is that there will be A LOT of green and white Eagles gear sported around camp this summer and we can’t wait to see it!
