Camp Green Lane Blog Post July 10th

Today was a regular Sayday on the schedule, so the Cadet Boys were at Instructional Swim, and then the Debs had their time in the pool. Boys Camp started the morning with Electives and the Girls were at Clinic.
The Inter Girls played Beach Games and were at Arts & Crafts; they were also down by the lake and at High Ropes. The Inter Boys played Flag Football, Basketball and Soccer. The Senior Boys had a triple-overtime basketball game for Leagues and later in the day, Senior Girls played basketball for Leagues, too.
Fifth period was Girls’ Free Swim, the Mets wrapped up their Snack Squad duties before Boys’ Free Swim ended the day.
The Greeks return from Lake Placid tonight and camp will be all together again between the arches. In the coming days, they’ll tell you all about their amazing experience.
Back here at camp, today was Sayday, but there was plenty of CGL magic sprinkled throughout the day. At all those activities, at the pool and at the ropes course, there was laughter. There were older girls teaching the younger girls  how to throw a lacrosse ball. There were boys crowding the fence to watch a tight kickball game on BB2. Campers sat up against counselors and little girls held hands.
And there were those Senior Girls on BB3, finishing their Leagues game while we wrapped up Free Swim. It was pretty one-sided, but the counselors were coaching and the kids were competing and trying and smiling. They cheered each other on and eventually, as happens a lot here at camp, the score didn’t really matter anymore. The counselors got in the game and a random basketball game during sixth period turned into pure joy.
They played tough defense. They chucked it from everywhere. Then the buckets started falling. They chanted each others’ names. They high-fived and group-hugged, and in the final moments of a random Leagues game during Sixth Period, the Senior Girls reminded us CGL magic can pop up in the most random places.
Today was Sayday.
And it was magical.
