Tonight’s Blog is written by our Deb Girl Supervisor, Aunt Carli Falkowitz Hesney

Tonight, we come together for our third Friday Night Service, led by the Deb division. Our theme and our CHIP for the evening is leadership.

Leadership is a word we hear a lot, but it can look very different depending on where you are. So what does it mean to be a leader at camp? Here at Camp Green Lane, leadership isn’t about your role or who has the loudest voice. It’s about teamwork, empathy, and responsibility.

When you comfort a friend who’s homesick or help someone feel better after losing a leagues game, that’s leadership through empathy.

When you work together to clean your cabin so everyone gets to first period on time—that’s leadership through teamwork.

When your cabin can’t decide between mini golf or ping pong, and someone suggests voting to keep it fair, that’s leadership through problem solving.

Some of us have opportunities to lead at home, maybe on a sports team or in a club. For many of us, camp is our safe place. It’s where we can be the very best versions of ourselves.

At camp, leadership shines through in the little moments when we cheer for our friends during an activity, including someone new in a game, or when we teach a group a game we invented.

Every day, between the arches, we have endless face-to-face opportunities to practice leadership without any distractions, just us, living in the moment with our friends.

Thanks so much Aunt Carli!
