Camp Green Lane Blog Post July 1st
We were all covered in paint today.
Here at Camp Green Lane, we have days like that. Days when we have so much fun, you can tell just by looking at the pictures of painted, smiling faces that the day was a total blast.
Today was our first Heyday on the schedule, but it was about so much more.
So let’s start from the beginning: breakfast.
Today we had yogurt and berries and granola, one of my favorites. But about 20 minutes after we left the Dining Hall, the theme from “Survivor” pumped through the loudspeakers all through camp. Campers dropped their brooms during Cleanup and donned their divisional colors and raced down to Soccer Field 2 for the first Survivor event of 2025.
Survivor is a summer-long, all-camp competition that culminates in the Survivor Sing.
But first, each division competes in a series of games and wacky events designed to allow the smallest and biggest campers fairly compete.
All of camp descended on the Soccer field down by the lake for the first battle: Paint Wars.
Today’s event called for each camper to dunk a finger in a bowl of their divisional color paint, race across the field and leave a fingerprint on the poster paper in front of all the other divisions. They ran, they laughed, they slid and laughed some more and by the end of it, we were all covered in paint, mud and blades of grass that stuck on our sneakers and legs the rest of the day.
And when it was over, the Deb Girls, who showed so much spunk with each Gronk spike of paint they planted on the sheet in front of the biggest boys in camp, had their first W of the summer. You go, girls. Stay tuned tomorrow for pictures of this great event.
That was all before First Period even started. It was a busy day of activities at camp bridging a lunch of wraps (turkey, and chicken Caesar) before a perfect summer afternoon rain sent us back to the cabins for an extended Shower Hour.
Perfect, because we were all covered in paint today.
