Camp Green Lane Blog Post July 23rd
Some people in camp ate very well today.
That’s because this morning was the always-anticipated Cooking Camp Within a Camp, the annual opportunity for campers to roll up their sleeves and get in the kitchen to do some incredible things with some talented cooks.
Chad Rosenthal, Maria Goldstein, Chef Justin Goldstein and the next-gen team of Luke Rosenthal and Jesse Goldstein threw down in the Dining Hall with their respective teams today. The theme of the three-course meal they each prepared was Elevated Camp Meals; each of the four teams created an original appetizer, a main dish and a mouth-watering dessert.
Jesse and Luke made cheesesteak egg rolls, kicked-up chicken parm sandwiches and a s’mores pizza for dessert. Chef Justin’s team created a menu of fried Buffalo chicken mac and cheese balls, grilled cheese with pancetta and a red velvet chipwich to finish.
Chef Maria’s group did a grilled cheese appetizer, carne asada chicken tacos and an Oreo Heath brownie trifle for dessert. Chef Chad’s team made Buffalo wings, smash burgers and cannolis. The kitchen smelled so good this morning!
All of the participating campers received a cool apron to take home and recreate their dishes with you.
And the best part was they got to eat all that food!
Cooking Camp is a big deal at CGL, but if you want to know what your kids are really talking about today, it has nothing to do with food and inredients. There’s a single-track of thought going around camp. From the youngest campers to the oldest counselors, they are all talking about one thing.
Color War.
Listening in on conversations all day, from the Circle to the pool and down at the lake, the talk is all Color War, all the time.
Who’s going to be captain? When’s it going to break? What will the themes be? Who should be camper captain? Can it really break during swim? Do you think there’s going to be a fake break later? What about during Juice Squad?
These are all actual questions being asked by actual campers and counselors today.
The CGL calendar unfolds every summer. There are spots in the summer when you expect things to happen. There’s July 4th and Carnival and Olympics, but as soon as Visiting Day concludes, Color War is top of mind for everyone between the arches.
And so, here we are. Wondering. Waiting. Anticipating.
All of us. Maybe even you guys at home, too.
