Camp Green Lane Blog Post July 27th
Everyone has their facepaint and headbands and ripped t-shirts. Some have written messages on their shirts. Others are wearing all their Spirit Package gear like the chains and white and green hair and tutus. Everyone is immersed, from head to toe in this Color War as the first day of activities kept us busy all day.
The morning featured cabin activities like basketball and hockey and soccer and softball. Then it was off to rallies, where each teams’ songwriters and captain teach their respective teams their four songs for Sing. Through the week, they’ll learn lyrics and music for a Friendship, Alma Mater, Razz and a March, which will be sung Thursday. The early buzz is this year’s songs are pretty special.
The afternoon brought more cabin activities, Snack Squad and alternating rallies and swims for each team. Through lunch, the score was only 10 points in favor of Green with the entirety of Color War and all the best events still to play. This evening after dinner will be a third cabin activity to complete a triple-header for the day; Evening Activity is Female Staff Basketball on BB1 in front of the whole camp.
Tomorrow, we’ll do it all over again with the week’s first Envelope event (Scavenger Hunt)! During Color War, certain events are worth Envelopes, and a secret point total that’s not revealed until the last day. Other Envelope Events include Monday’s Acorn Relay and Rope Burn, Tuesday’s Amazing Race, Wednesday’s Campfire Skits and Steeplechase on Thursday.
Don’t worry. we’ll explain all of those events as they come.
Going through the week’s schedule, you’ll find many of the same games and competitions we’ve been doing here at Camp Green Lane have been unchanged for generations. The events of Steeplechase, for example, are the same events from the 1970s.
What’s old is new again. And today, everyone in camp jumped into Color War with two feet, a whole lot of emotion, and lots and lots of face paint and spirit wear.
