Camp Green Lane Blog Post July 28th
Things are getting intense.
We’ve reached the point of Color War where the competition has really set in and the kids and their counselors are very much into the spirit of the week. Cabin rivalries have played out time and time again on the field and on the courts, each side’s claimed a few wins here and there, and the tone for the week has very much been set.
Camp Green Lane Color War is an intense week. It’s an emotional week. We see this week in pictures and in video of your kids giving everything they’ve got to do their part in the week’s activities. Maybe it’s pulling a tire or laying out to save a loose ball. Scoring a big goal in water polo or making a big save in hockey.
In Color War, there are no participation trophies. There’s a winner of each event and there’s a losing side, and one of the best things we see this week is when it doesn’t go the right way for a kid, he or she will dust themselves off, get a supportive hug from their teammates and it’s on to the next event. Color War is lots of fun, but I have to think there’s plenty of lessons and learning going on throughout the days about how to deal with defeat, how to dig deep and how winning is great but how you play the game is really most important.
It’s been a competitive start to Color War and through lunch (bagels), Green World held a 1085-1000 lead over White Play.
Things will get interesting after dinner tonight with the Scavenger Hunt, the week’s first envelope event. Most every camper and counselor in camp will be involved in the game in some way as each team searches for things like the fastest cuber and the person wearing the most layers of shirts.
Following the Scavenger Hunt, it’s Male Staff Basketball on BB1.
Things are getting intense here at camp!
