Camp Green Lane Blog Post, July 29th
Tonight is Rope Burn.
One of the signature events of a Camp Green Lane Color War is Rope Burn. It’s held atop the hill at the Girls’ Tennis Courts and it is a race between the Green and White camper captains. They must build a fire and burn through a thick rope tied 10 feet off the ground.
The male camper captains are selected from the first-year Greeks, known as Alphas. Ethan Malat and Harry Solomon are going for Green Work and Reid Rochestie and Eric Stierman are building the White Play fire. Since Color War started, they’ve been collecting sticks and kindling all throughout camp that they’ll use tonight. They have rehearsed and build and re-built their structures in preparation for tonight’s ultimate contest.
For many, tonight is the single most exciting night of the summer. The youngest campers will remember what they see tonight forever. The oldest boys who have the incredible opportunity to participate in the event will also carry the memory forever.
We’re all so excited for Rope Burn and for those boys.
Rope Burn is the second of two Envelopes awarded today. The first will go to the winner of the Acorn Relay, a relay race held throughout camp and involves every camper on Green and White. We’ll do that after dinner, and on the other side of Rope Burn, we’ll close out the day with Gamma/Sigma volleyball on BB1.
Through lunch, and with about half of Color War left to go, Green Work lead White Play 1642-1503.
Check back later for more, including an exciting Rope Burn livestream!
