Camp Green Lane Blog Post July 3rd

, July 3, 2019

To all of you parents sitting at home ready to celebrate the 4th of July, believe it or not, it has only been 12 days since you were hugging your children; we assure you that the fun hasn’t stopped here at camp. The most common phrase we hear our campers saying is “we live ten months for two!” What exactly does that mean?

Yes, well, it means the obvious, that we cannot wait for summer to be here. But on another level, it equates the ten dreary winter months filled with homework to the glorious months we spend here. The developmental growth in terms of social skills is still astounding for us to watch. Camp is the place where kids make their very best friends. Free from the social expectations pressuring them at school, free from cell phones, IPads, Instagram and video games; camp encourages kids to relax and make friends easily. All the fun at camp draws everyone together— singing, laughing, talking, playing, and doing almost everything together. The long, cold, lengthy winter months only make us appreciate the summertime more.

After a mere 12 days, kids already appreciate the two months that we get to spend in our oasis. First timers, as well as lifelong campers are holding hands in the circle, running to be the first one in line for afternoon snack. All of our campers have assimilated into a collective CGL family, so much that we are unable to tell which campers are new.

Living ten months for two is more than a phrase; it is a statement of family. The dining hall is our kitchen table; the living room is our circle; the fighting with siblings turns to whispered secrets at night; your home, our home, our Camp Green Lane.
