Camp Green Lane Blog Post July 3rd
Today was Carnival at Camp Green Lane, a day many count among the most fun of the summer. The day is like Free Play with rides and games and treats, making the day special and much different than a regular camp day.
The day started with a our first 10am breakfast of the summer, giving everyone a little extra rest from the late night at the ball park! We had French toast sticks for breakfast and a special announcement: The winners of yesterday’s Lip Sync Contest were announced. Congratulations to the Cubs and Regency, unanimous winners for their rendition of “Let it Go” from Frozen!
From breakfast, we spent the morning cleaning and setting up the Stein Dome for Carnival. Each cabin was assigned a booth to set up and decorate. There were some traditional favorites, like Sponge Toss and the Football Throw; the Orioles offered their opinions on all questions and the girls of Sands twisted up some crazy hair creations. There were bouncy rides on Cadet Hill and inflatables in the pool, and all the group leaders got to spend some time in the Dunk Tank.
Of course, the longest lines were for cotton candy, water ice, soft pretzels, popcorn and all the prizes.
Tonight is a BBQ chicken cookout and then we’ll all get dressed up for the first dance of the summer. The Carnival Dance on BB1 is always a special night when the King and Queen are announced. Selected from Alpha and Gamma, rising 10th graders, the King and Queen dance a ceremonial dance together (with all the other former kings, queens and former Color War captains in attendance).
Tomorrow, we’ll shift back into a regular camp day with some July 4 celebrations in store. We’ll wear red white and blue tomorrow, but tonight, we’re going to get dressed up and dance the night away.
See you on BB1!
