Camp Green Lane Blog Post July 3rd
Tonight, we’re gonna oink like Pigs.
Our annual July 4-ish trip to the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs game is always about so much more than balls and strikes and getting to see the Triple-A affiliate of the Phillies play. The smaller venue makes pro ball a little more accessible to us, puts us right next to the action in right field, and the confines of Coca-Cola Park allow us to eat and laugh and be together as one, even in a public space.
We come from lots of places and we root for lots of teams at Camp Green Lane. But no matter where our MLB allegiances lie, no matter if you root for the Mets, Yankees, Marlins, Phillies or anyone else, everyone at CGL is an Iron Pigs fan. Especially today.
Instead of just getting to see a baseball game, we get to ride buses with our best friends, laugh and eat delicious ballpark food; maybe someone will catch a fly ball; maybe we’ll see our faces on the scoreboard. Going to a baseball game is great, but tonight we get to experience all the thrills with our best friends, making the experience even sweeter.
For years now, we’ve been coming to see the Iron Pigs and it’s always one of our favorite trips. There was a buzz around camp today in anticipation of heading out to the ballpark and enjoying the sights and sounds of the game. And have you heard about the corn?
A favorite among campers and counselors, the Aw Shucks! roasted corn stand is primed for a workout tonight. The line will be as long and you’ll see tons of pictures later of kids in CGL officials double-fisting those delicious ears of corn. We’ll also get ice cream and crab fries and hot dogs and we’ll taste what our friends got.
The Iron Pigs game will feature a July 4 fireworks show, and the trip will kick off our own Independence Day festivities that will continue through the day tomorrow.
There will be lots of red, white and blue, an annual hockey tournament, and a hot dog cookout to mark the holiday.
But first, we’re headed to the ballpark.
Oink! Oink!
