Camp Green Lane Blog Post-July 4th
Happy 4th of July!!!!!Baseball and fireworks! What better way to celebrate Independence Day?
Last night, Camp Green Lane had a blast at the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs game! The Iron Pigs are the Triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies and CGL watched them take on the Syracuse Chiefs at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown. Campers were treated to premium seats along the first base line and indulged in all of the tasty ball park food. With the game tied at 1-1 after 9 innings, minor league baseball is trying out a new rule where they place a man on 2nd base in extra innings. In the bottom of the 10th, the Iron Pigs with a 3-run walk-off homerun won the game. We then put our 3-d glasses on, sat back, relaxed while the stadium celebrated Independence Day with an amazing fireworks show! What a night!
We treated everyone to a little extra rest this morning and had our first 10 am breakfast of the summer. The kids always love that.
Today at camp, preparations are well underway for tomorrow’s Camp Green Lane Carnival. As noted in yesterday’s blog, Carnival is a day-long event of circus-like mini-games, carnival rides and food, culminating in a dance. Each cabin is responsible for running a booth during Carnival (sponge toss, toilet paper throw, water balloon toss, etc.). Campers love the leadership roles when they take turns being in charge of their booth’s activity. While not running their own booth, campers get to explore and have fun with all the other booths winning tickets to be used at the Prize booth and enjoying Carnival favorites of Water Ice, Soft Pretzels, Popcorn, Cotton Candy!
To kick off tomorrow’s Carnival, tonight’s evening activity is our Carnival Lip Sync. Cabins are paired up and will compete in a “Holiday” themed lip syncing contest. I can’t wait to see what creative ideas our campers come up with!
