Camp Green Lane Blog Post July14th
Today’s Blog was written by a couple of Girls in Gamma (10th Grade Girls), as part of our Greek Division who last week went on the annual Greek Trip, this year to Western Pennsylvania. Please make sure to checkout the pictures on Facebook in the Greek Trip 2024 Album!
The Greeks had a blast on their trip to Western Pennsylvania! Their three day adventure consisted of spelunking, white water rafting, axe throwing, bowling, a campfire, and tons of exciting moments.
The Greeks descended seventeen stories through the Laurel Caverns, each group with a knowledgeable guide. They crawled, climbed, fit through tight spaces, and pushed past claustrophobia. One of the highlights was a fresh waterfall that is naturally filtered and completely drinkable. Some of the best water they have ever tasted! They also had the cool experience of seeing the caves in their natural, pitch black, form. It was so dark one couldn’t even tell if their eyes were open or closed.
Going through the caves required perseverance. Because of that, 2 of our campers, Zoe Stumer and Ryan Passante were specifically recognized by getting the perseverance CGL CHIP at Friday Night Services.
Later that night, the group went axe throwing in the resort. It was a new experience for many, and while it was difficult to get the hang of, the Greeks had an amazing time.
The second day they went white water rafting in the Ohiopyle River with rapids up to class four! It was exciting to switch from rapids to calm water as the Greeks navigated the river. On two occasions, the Greeks were able to jump out of their raft and enjoy a freezing swim in the river. At one point, they were even able to jump off of a twelve foot boulder! White water rafting was a great test of the Greek’s teamwork capabilities. That night, they enjoyed s’mores at a cozy campfire, and laughed a lot as they went bowling without bumpers. Quite an entertaining game.
The third day the Greeks got an activity bracelet and were able to do anything the resort offered. Some of Sigma chose to go on a two mile hike, Alpha and Delta played frisbee golf (their favorite), and Gamma loved going on the ski lift. Some people went on paddle boats and kayaks in a lake hidden at the top of the mountain. There was also mini golf and an arcade available, something fun for everyone!
Throughout the trip, the Greeks were granted freedom to eat wherever they wanted, something they all loved. There were various restaurants in the resort, from fine dining to a grab-and-go pizza shop, everyone enjoyed the break from camp food! After dinner every night, the Greeks made sure to stop at the resort’s delicious bakery/ice cream shop.
An underrated part of the trip was definitely the bus rides! While they were long, they were a great opportunity to relax and bond with everyone, making fun ways to pass the time. Also a prime spot to get extra sleep.
Sadly, the end of the trip came. On the way home the Greeks stopped at Chairos, camp’s favorite pizza place, for one final meal with just their division. Looking back, the Greeks had the best time, making memories that will last a lifetime.
