Camp Green Lane burst to life this morning when the caravan of buses rolled into the Circle.

There were cheers and tears and hugs and the dearest of friends were reunited after a 10-month wait. There were so many wide eyes and little smiles streaming out of those buses, and just like I told you yesterday, each and every one stepped off alone.

Some took a few steps. And some needed only one or two before they met a new friend, a counselor or a cabin mate. And then just like that, all those little individuals were swept up and instantly became part of a group, a piece of a bunk and a summer family born on a perfectly cool and misty Green Lane day.

We get to see many remarkable things across a CGL summer and Arrival is just the first.

For example, do you remember the moment you met your best friend?

Many of the friendships born today will continue for a lifetime. Many of the introductions that happened at the bus today will stretch generations, Some may even continue previous bonds. Many of the little boys and girls who connected today will be there for each other well beyond this summer’s adventures; they will stand at weddings, celebrate births, and will lean on each other throughout all that life throws at them.

But that’s a bit down the road.

The here and now was a delightful camp day of learning new names and faces, finding their bunks and experiencing a Green Lane meal for the first time in the Dining Hall. There was grilled cheese for lunch and Snack Squad in between camp tours and free swims. As one counselor was telling one very excited camper, “Today is all about getting to know each other. Tomorrow is when the activities will really start.”

And of course, we’ll cap the night off tonight with the annual Counselor Talent Show.

Camp Green Lane burst to life this morning. The kids and the laughter and the cheers and the hugs all arrived with the buses today.

And the most incredible summer has finally begun.
