Camp Green Lane Blog Post June 28th

Today was the first traditional camp day of the summer.

Actually, it was Someday.

Here at CGL, the days of the week have different names. And we have eight of them.

Someday, Anyday, Oneday, Heyday, Sayday, Playday, Yayday and Funday replace Friday and her friends here at camp. Each camp day offers each cabin a new set of activities; and the reason we have eight days is to offer all of our 32 cabins an equal opportunity to experience all of the activities on the schedule.

So that meant today, Someday, the Orioles kicked off the summer with gaga, the A’s played Soccer, the Cards went to Beach Volleyball and the Blue Jays played tennis. The Pirates played Ultimate Fisbee, the White Sox traversed the High Ropes, the Royals played Pickleball and the Dodgers rode bikes.

The Mets rode Quads, the Braves went to Cooking, the Phillies played kickball and the Padres hit the Lake. Alpha hooped it up on BB1 and Delta played frisbee golf (Frolf).

As for the girls, Holiday and Regency did Arts and Crafts, Hyatt went to Drama, Hershey played Pickleball and Ritz played beach volleyball with Dunes. Tropicana also visited Arts and Crafts, Palace went to Cooking, Seasons played Kickball and Sands played mini-golf and ping-pong.

Claridge went to tennis and Dorado headed up to Archery, Biltmore did Dance, Atlantis played BBK (a signature CGL combo-sport of Basketball-Baseball-Kickball) and Stardust played Softball. Gamma did Gymnastics and Sigma played Beach Games.

And that was all before lunch! (Chef Justin’s-Fil-A sandos and waffle fries!)

The afternoon was filled with more of the same, including alternating girls’ and boys’ free swim that traditionally cap our 6-period days. Then it’s Shower Hour, Lineup, Dinner (steak fajitas!), Free Play (when campers typically get to enjoy the activities of their choice), closing with an Evening Activity.

Tomorrow, I’ll tell you all about Clinic and Elective and Leagues, which make up a big part of our schedule.

So that’s what a traditional Camp Green Lane day looks like.

Throw in all of our special events, some surprises, a lot of tradition, and when you think about it, there really are no ho-hum “typical” days here.

So today was Someday. And it was fantastic.
