Camp Green Lane Blog Post- June 30th
“Let’s go! Let’s go! Let’s go!”
Basketball 1, or BB1, is Camp Green Lane’s center court. It is the heartbeat of camp, where kids play from morning until night. BB1 is where we run to when Color War breaks, it’s where we gather for the opening and closing ceremonies of Olympics; it’s where all the biggest games are played, from Leagues championship to Color War’s Steeplechase, a race we’ll tell you more about later in the summer that starts with a pudding eating contest and ends with a watermelon eating contest on the BB1.
But for most of the summer, BB1 is mostly used for basketball.
BB1 is also Coach Don’s home office.
Coach Don is our basketball specialist this year. The kids are affectionately calling him Coach because that’s what he is and what he does. When you have Basketball on your schedule, it means you can look forward to instruction and coaching, drills and fun team-building activities that are already producing better basketball players. More importantly, sessions with Coach Don make us better teammates, focused on working as a team, hustling for rebounds and playing tough defense, no matter what skill level.
All day on BB1, you can hear the squeak of basketball shoes, the music, the chirp of Coach Don’s whistle, and his constant demand to, “Let’s go! Let’s go! Let’s go!”
Push the ball. Grab rebounds. Hustle!
“Let’s go! Let’s go! Let’s go!”
From the youngest girls to the oldest boys, Coach Don has made an immediate positive impact over the first week of camp.
Tonight for evening activity, Inter Girls were scheduled for an overnight, Cadets will have Cake Boss, a cake decorating competition; Debs will have a sing down, Senior Boys go bowling, Senior Girls play Human Building Blocks and Greeks were scheduled to have a campfire.
Finally, the Inter Boys, the youngest in camp, have Night Leagues under the lights. On BB1.
The time, the place, it’s a big deal for those little boys.
“Let’s go! Let’s go! Let’s go!”
