Camp Green Lane Blog Post-November 15th

, November 15, 2017

November is the time of year when we think about the things we are thankful for. Things like family, friends, food on the table, a warm bed to sleep in, and a roof over our heads. While these things pertain to our lives at home, they also work in the context of camp!

At camp, the words friends and family are interchangeable. We always talk about our Camp Green Lane summer family, so-named because the bonds created between the arches go way beyond those of everyday friendship.

Our chefs create three delicious meals each day for over 400 people. This is quite an accomplishment when you think about it. They turn out time-tested favorites like grilled cheese, french toast sticks, baked and fried chicken, mashed potatoes, chicken pot pie and so much more. The canteen is always stocked with our favorite goodies, like slushies, ice cream, and candy bars for those times when sharing a sweet treat with a friend is what’s on tap for Free Play.

Beds at camp aren’t just warm places to sleep. They are places to write letters, play cards, share secrets and laughs, and to relax after a hard day of playing. And the cabin is so much more than just the 4 walls surrounding us. It is our home base. It’s where we can always find a smiling face or a shoulder to lean on.

For all of these reasons, we are so thankful for our summer home at Camp Green Lane. And we are especially thankful for the people with whom we share it, our CGL family. Enjoy Thanksgiving with your loved ones, and we look forward to seeing your faces at the reunion in a few weeks!
