Camp Green Lane Blog Post October 16th
What was it that Tevye said about tradition in Fiddler on the Roof? I believe it was:
“Because of our traditions, we’ve kept our balance for many, many years.”
At Camp Green Lane, we’ve kept our balance for many years – 92 years, to be exact – by standing on the pillars of traditions that were started at camp long ago. Of course we are constantly updating both our facilities and programs, but our traditions are at the very heart of The Camp Green Lane experience. If a current camper was to meet an alumni, they would have an instant connection and so many things to talk about:
- Bunk parties
- Leagues
- Friday night Services
- Firefly by the lake
- Carnival booths in the Dome
- Songs and cheers in the Dining Room
- Running to BB1 to find out what Color War team you’re on
- Birthday Meal
- Where their names are written on the walls of Arts & Crafts
We could go on and on. While the world around us is changing at a rapid pace, between the arches we look to our traditions, good old-fashioned fun, and the bonds of friendship to keep us balanced.
Talk to your camper(s) and let us know what their favorite camp traditions are. Is it a specific song or cheer? An activity? A trip? We would love to know!
Happy Halloween to one and all and we’ll see you back here in November!
