Camp Green Lane Summer Blog Post-July 10th
Today’s blog is written by one of our Greek Campers, Abby Cutler who is at Camp Green Lane for her 9th summer about the Greek trip yesterday to the JRA.
Today was an awesome day for the CGL Greeks. The other older campers and I spent our day in Philadelphia doing many things. We started our day bright and early with breakfast in camp, and soon after we boarded our bus to JRA. JRA, the Jewish Relief Agency, is an organization that packages and delivers over 3,000 boxes of food for the less fortunate families in the greater Philadelphia, Delaware, and Southern Jersey areas. Us and other regular volunteers packaged boxes with cereal, crackers, canned vegetables, tuna and other foods in a pretty effective assembly line. After packaging, we loaded up the bus with over 100 boxes and drove to a nearby apartment building for delivery. Everyone delivered these boxes to the apartments and greeted the residents. One of the sweetest ladies I delivered a box to opened her door with a great big smile. She thanked me, gave me a great big hug, and waved goodbye to me as I walked down the hallway. My friends also delivered to people like this, and it made us all feel like we were really helping our community. After delivering the boxes, we drove to Spruce Street Harbor Park and we were given about two hours to walk around. There were a variety of food trucks and booths, the “Distrito” taco truck being my personal favorite, to choose from. There was even delicious ice cream from “Franklin Fountain” which was perfect for this beautifully sunny day. All in all, this trip was AMAZING!!!! It was a great way to give back to our community, and it felt so rewarding to volunteer our today.
