Camp Green Lane Summer Blog Post-June 26th

, June 26, 2017

We could not ask for more perfect weather for the first week of camp! Everyone is outside and having a great time enjoying another beautiful camp day. Today started with our Group Leaders revealing the Carnival 2017 lip-sync theme! This year, each cabin will be paired up with another cabin and must come up with a lip-sync about working, and or jobs.  We can’t wait to see what creative ideas they come up with!

Today, the campers were given their clinic and elective assignments. Both clinics and electives will last for one week, and then the campers will choose again.  They were all so excited to find out where they would start their rotation. During clinic today, I was lucky enough to take part in basketball. I decided to do the activities along with the campers and counselors to see how awesome our coaches are this summer.  Let me tell you, it was a workout! It was so great to see all the girls so excited to learn new skills and practice their technique. I saw Inter Girls and Seniors Girls staying focused and helping each other through the drills. Everyone was having so much fun.

In the afternoon I attended boys lacrosse clinic. It was so cool to see some of the more experienced lacrosse players’ help out kids who had never played before. Everyone was supporting each other in learning how to play together. I think this is a very special part about Camp Green Lane. Everyone wants to help each other be successful here. We help each other in sports, we help each other with cheers and everyone looks out for each other. Not only do the campers have their counselors looking out for them but also their friends, in the cabin next door, their Supervisors and all the other Upper staff.  As a summer family, we are all here to support one another and help each other make the most of our time in our summer home.

Tonight, we have some of our first out of camp trips! The Deb Girls will be playing a round of mini golf and getting amazing ice cream at Freddy Hill Farms, while the Cadet Boys venture to the world famous Earl Bowl to knock down some pins. Back at camp, the Greeks will be playing Sing Down, while the Inters and Seniors will each be having their first Pal Team activity! Tonight each Inter Boy and Inter Girl will be paired with a Senior Boy or Senior Girl, respectively.  For returning campers most of their pals have stayed the same. That way their bond can continue to grow. For our new campers they will meet their pal tonight and these campers will act as their big sister or brother. Tonight the boys will be having a card night while the girls will have a spa night. We will have more Pal activities throughout the summer!

Yours in camping
