Summer Blog Post July 4th
Happy 4th of July!
Our staff and campers are all sporting their red, white, and blue today in celebration of the holiday. We also finished lunch today with an America-themed dance party, rocking out to an American classic, Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus.
After lunch, we all met in the Globe to watch Carnival lip syncs! Earlier in the week, cabins drew names of other cabins out of a hat to determine who would be working with whom. Last night’s evening activity was rehearsing their animal-themed performances.
The teams were as follows:
- Cubs & Sands
- A’s & Hyatt
- Blue Jays & Dunes
- Pirates & Holiday
- Red Sox & Dorado
- Rockies & Hershey
- Dodgers & Seasons
- Yankees & Atlantis
- Mets & Gamma
- Braves & Ritz
- Phillies & Plaza
- Alpha & Claridge
- Delta & Tropicana
- Sigma & Palace
The winner of the lip syncs will be announced tomorrow.
Back home, Jesse and I are both theatre teachers. We love our jobs, and we know how challenging it can be to get kids to take the risk of performing onstage. It was so encouraging to watch every single CGL camper get up onto the Globe stage and dance, cheer each other on, and take big risks. It can be scary to look silly, especially as a young person, but here at CGL, it’s the perfect environment to let yourself play and embrace the freedom to look a little goofy.
And some of these lip syncs sure were goofy! Song choices included Who Let the Dogs Out, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Eye of the Tiger, and Roar.
The rest of the afternoon will be spent playing in tournaments and splashing in the pool, but the REAL treat comes this evening, when we get to take a trip to the Iron Pigs baseball game! Everyone is excitedly anticipating the ballpark food and the beautiful fireworks.
We’ll tell you all about the game tomorrow. We hope you have a fun holiday!
